Chef/Owner Jamieson Van Loan is originally from the tiny island of Rotuma which is located within the Fiji Islands. In Rotuman culture, mamasa refers to the welcoming ceremony preformed by locals for visitors and returning friends and family . A traditional mamasa has a large feast to make the visitors feel a home. We hope your experience at Mamasa is just that: a welcome home. 

Mamasa is located in the northwestern region of Guancasate within the small beach town of Playa Grande. Playa Grande is known for its gorgeous beaches, awesome surf break, and for being a turtle sanctuary for las baulas or the leatherback turtles. Mamasa would like to add food to that list. We hope our guests get to experience the beauty, adventure, FOOD and relaxed lifestyle of Playa Grande. 

This is our philosophy: Live Grande. Hey- it also means to live BIG and there's no other way in our opinion.

Our menu is based on quality with a focus on local products. We do our best to source our ingredients within Costa Rica and better yet within the Guanacaste region. Our menu is recreated daily and we strive for excellence. We have daily specials based on what is fresh in the markets. Our goal with our menu is to have something delicious to offer everyone.
